The ASCII file ECOLMON2.DAT contains the data used by Costantino et al. (1997)
in Science, volume 275, pages 389-391 and reported in more detail by Dennis
et al. (2001) in Ecological Monographs, volume 71, pages 277-303.  In this
experiment, adult mortality (parameter mua) and adult recruitment (parameter
cpa) were manipulated in the experimental cultures.  There was a control with
no manipulations and and seven treatments with and cpa = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.25,
0.35, 0.50, 1.00 and mua = 0.96 for all values of cpa. The controls and each cpa treatment were replicated three times.

The data are arranged in a comma-delimited format, with a CR/LF at the end
of each record.  All entries are numeric.  Each record contains the
following eight fields:

Field 1:  Treatment coded as 1 = Control
                             2 = cpa=0.00, mua=0.96 
                             3 = cpa=0.05, mua=0.96 
                             4 = cpa=0.10, mua=0.96 
                             5 = cpa=0.25, mua=0.96 
                             6 = cpa=0.35, mua=0.96

Field 2:  Replicate number (1-24)

Field 3:  The value of parameter mua
(for controls, estimated from counts of dead adults)

Field 4:  The value of parameter cpa
(estimated for controls, see Dennis et al. 2001)

Field 5:  Week at census (0, 2, 4, ..., 80)

Field 6:  Number of L-stage beetles

Field 7:  Number of P-stage beetles

Field 8:  Number of A-stage beetles

There are a total of 984 records in the data set.
